Going to a concert in Kuala Lumpur: venues, transport, the day
Kuala Lumpur is a major Asian tour stop, and for fans in Vietnam it means cheap direct flights and a short trip. It differs from Bangkok in one very welcome way: the largest concert venue <b>has a train to the door</b>.
The main venues
- Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil — the largest indoor arena, hosting most international concerts. Right beside Bukit Jalil LRT station.
- Bukit Jalil National Stadium — same complex, for stadium-scale shows.
- Mega Star Arena — inside Sungei Wang Plaza in Bukit Bintang, for fanmeetings and mid-sized shows.
- Stadium Merdeka / Stadium Negara — central, used for some outdoor and indoor shows.
- Zepp Kuala Lumpur — a smaller venue in Bukit Bintang for independent shows.
Getting to Bukit Jalil
The most pleasant thing about KL: the Sri Petaling LRT line has a Bukit Jalil station beside the sports complex. From the centre (KL Sentral, Bukit Bintang) the train takes you there with no dependence on cars.
Leaving is still crowded — tens of thousands heading for one station — but trains run continuously, so it clears far faster than finding a car at Muang Thong Thani. To avoid the crush, stay in the area another 30–45 minutes.
Ride-hailing (Grab) works well in the city, but after a show prices surge and waits are long — the train remains the main plan.
Entry requirements
Malaysia’s entry policy for Vietnamese citizens changes over time — check official sources close to your date. Malaysia requires an electronic arrival declaration for many travellers; do not discover this at the airport.
A passport with plenty of validity, and ID matching the ticket name if the show checks.
On the day
- Malaysia’s conduct rules at entertainment events are stricter than Thailand’s; organisers usually publish a list of prohibited items. Read it beforehand.
- Arrive early for merchandise — queues at Axiata Arena can run for hours.
- Charge your phone and screenshot the e-ticket. Signal in a packed venue is often unusable.
- Hot and humid year-round; if you queue outdoors, water matters.
Where to stay
Bukit Bintang is most convenient for sightseeing and has a direct LRT to Bukit Jalil. Staying near Bukit Jalil suits the show day but offers little else. For a short trip, central plus train is the right balance.
The order still holds: ticket in hand first, non-refundable flights second.
