Lightsticks: where to buy, how to pair, and flying with one
The lightstick is what fans bring most, and what raises most questions at the airport. Where to buy a real one, how to make it change colour with the whole room, and where the batteries go when you fly.
Where to buy
- The management company's official store, usually online.
- The official merch booth at the concert: long queues, and it can sell out.
- Retailers the company itself names.
Fakes are much cheaper and look similar, but will not connect to the show's control system.
Pairing and syncing
Many K-pop lightsticks can be colour-controlled by the show. Usually: install the lightstick's official app, pair over Bluetooth, and enter your seat (section, row, seat) before the show. Each version has its own steps, and not every show uses it. Set it up at home; the signal inside is poor.
Flying with it
- The rule most airlines apply: spare lithium batteries and power banks go in hand luggage only, never checked in.
- A lightstick with a built-in rechargeable lithium battery: per IATA, every lithium-powered device must go in hand baggage.
- Ordinary alkaline AAA batteries are not restricted like lithium, but take them out or lock the switch so it does not turn on in the bag.
- Some airlines also ban using or charging power banks on board. Rules differ by airline and change. Check yours before you fly.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Keep spare lithium batteries and built-in rechargeable ones in hand luggage, lock the switch or remove the batteries, and check your airline's rules.
Many take replaceable AAA batteries; some newer ones have a built-in rechargeable battery. Put fresh ones in before the show.
Usually the app is not paired or the seat not entered, the batteries are low, or it is not official. Not every show uses syncing.
