Concert postponed or cancelled: how refunds work, and what nobody refunds
A postponement or cancellation arrives with a dozen questions at once. Most of the answers are in the promoter's official notice — this is what to look for in it.
Postponed is not cancelled
- Postponed: the show moves to a new date. Tickets usually stay valid for it; there is often a window to ask for a refund if you cannot make the new date, after which the ticket simply carries over.
- Cancelled: the show will not happen, and tickets are refunded as the promoter and the platform announce.
Who refunds, and to where
The ticketing platform refunds on the promoter's instruction, usually to the payment method used. Some refund automatically, some need a form within a deadline. Either way the money goes to the person who bought: if someone bought for you, or you bought a ticket second-hand, it goes to them.
What is usually not refunded
- Some platform handling or delivery fees, depending on the terms.
- Your bank's foreign transaction fee.
- Flights, hotels, visas — travel insurance or changeable fares are the protection there.
- Exchange-rate differences: a refund to a foreign card is converted at the rate on the day of the refund.
If you bought through someone else

- A resale: the refund goes to the original buyer, and you have almost no way to claim it — another reason to buy second-hand only through official transfer.
The cancellation scam
Right after a cancellation, fake "refund support" messages and pages appear, asking you to log in, send card details or pay a processing fee. Real platforms do not charge you to refund you. Follow only the platform's own site and the promoter's channels.
