Collecting concert tickets: e-tickets, paper and counter pickup
Buying the ticket is not the end. For a show abroad, how the ticket is issued can dictate your flight dates — so it is something to establish before booking, not after.
Three common methods
- E-ticket — a QR code or file sent by email or shown in an app. Simplest for a foreign buyer, since nothing has to happen before the day.
- Counter pickup — exchanging the booking for a physical ticket at a platform or venue counter, usually within set hours.
- Posted paper ticket — mailed to a local address. Usually not workable from abroad.
Why this matters
If a show requires counter pickup within fixed hours, your flights have to fit those hours. People have booked to arrive on the day of the show only to find the exchange counter closed the evening before.
This is why the collection section of the announcement should be read before booking flights and hotels.
Named tickets
Some markets issue tickets tied to the buyer’s ID and check them at the door. Mainland China is the clearest example, and some Korean shows do the same.
Where that applies, the name on the order must be the attendee’s from the moment of purchase — changes afterwards are usually refused, and a ticket in someone else’s name can be turned away.
If someone books on your behalf, settle this at the start.
What to ask before booking
- How does this show issue tickets?
- If pickup is required, where is the counter and on which days and hours?
- Is the ticket tied to ID, and what must be brought to the door?
- If the buyer and the attendee are different people, does the show allow it?
Frequently asked questions
Can e-tickets be faked?
A photograph of a QR code can be sent to many people, so a code received through a private transfer is no guarantee it is still valid. A ticket issued directly into your own account is far safer than an image somebody sent you.
What if I miss the pickup window?
It depends on the show, and in many cases the ticket is lost. Which is exactly why the pickup hours should be checked before booking flights.
