What GMMTV Starlympics is — and why it is not a concert
If you met the name through a clip and assumed it was a concert, you will buy the wrong expectation. Starlympics is a sports day: the artists are in kit, split into two teams, playing for a real scoreline. The concert is the last part. Knowing that decides whether the flight is worth it.
The short version
- What: the annual sports event of GMMTV, the studio behind most Thai BL series.
- Who: close to the entire roster. The 2026 edition lists more than 190 artists.
- Teams: two — Lightning Cheetah and Shadow Eagle.
- Sports: the 2025 edition ran futsal, basketball and a relay race. Each year’s events are announced closer to the day.
- Ending: a full cast concert, the GMMTV Star Concert.
It runs about six hours, which is worth remembering: you are in the arena for most of an afternoon and evening.
Why fandoms treat it as the year’s biggest date
A fanmeeting is one pair for one afternoon; a concert is one act for one night. Starlympics is the one day a year the whole studio is in the same room at the same time, and most of what people clip afterwards comes from those crossings.
It is also the rare event where nothing is scripted. A futsal match has a real score and someone actually loses, which is why the clips travel further than staged formats do.
The stands are part of it too: GMMTV’s fandom characters come down to cheer, and each block backs its own team.
How it differs from a concert or a fanmeeting
- Against a concert: most of the running time is sport, not stage. The music is at the end.
- Against a fanmeeting: no per-pair segment, no photo draw. It is a collective event.
- On seating: the floor is a court, so "close to the stage" does not mean what it means at a concert. A good seat is one that sees the whole floor.
- On length: around six hours against the two or three of a concert.
What is different about 2026
The date. Previous editions fell in December — 2025 was on the 20th — and 2026 moves earlier, to Saturday 28 November 2026. Planning from last year’s habit puts you a month out.
The venue is still Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, which is outside Bangkok rather than in it; there is a guide to reaching it below. Tickets are on ThaiTicketMajor under a two-per-ID rule, covered in the ticket guide.
Is it worth flying for
Yes, if you follow more than one GMMTV fandom, or if what you want is to be in the room: six hours of it, a whole block on your side, and the parts that never make the broadcast.
No, if you follow one pair and want to see them clearly. In a 190-artist event nobody gets long, and from the stands you watch the screens more than the people. For that, the online ticket costs a fraction and shows you more — see the TTM LIVE guide below.
