Camp it yourself or hire someone: decide in five minutes
This is written by a camping service, so you may expect it to tell you to hire one. It does not. For many shows doing it yourself is the right call and the cheaper one, and that comes first.
When to do it yourself
If most of these are true, do not pay anyone:
- You are free at the on-sale and can sit at a machine for 30–60 minutes.
- The show sells on a platform that takes international cards and asks for no local ID.
- You already have a verified account there with a saved card.
- You will accept several tiers rather than one exactly.
- The show is not one that sells out in the first two minutes.
When doing it yourself will almost certainly fail
- The on-sale lands while you are in a meeting, an exam, or asleep.
- The platform declines foreign-issued cards or requires a national ID. That is a technical wall, and persistence does not get through it.
- You have one device and one connection while the platform assigns random queue numbers per session.
- You need one specific tier and will not accept a substitute.
- Tickets are sold at a counter abroad and you are not there.
What actually goes in the comparison
The honest comparison is not "free versus a fee". Doing it yourself costs something too; you just do not get invoiced for it:
Time preparing the account and payment. Time sitting and watching. And above all, the risk of missing out. Missing out does not cost nothing: you lose the show, or you buy on the resale market at several times the service fee.
Equally, hiring is not insurance. Nobody can guarantee a ticket. You are paying for better odds and for not having to handle it yourself — not for a certain outcome.
The middle case: do it yourself, hire part of it
It is not always one or the other. Sensible middles exist: queue yourself but have someone else complete the payment because your card is declined. Or have one tier camped while you try another in parallel.
If that is your situation, say so when you message — it costs less than the whole job.
How to check whoever you hire
Whoever you use, ask the same three: is this ticket bought for me or resold to me, what is the fee and is it separate from face value, and what happens if you do not get one.

Is hiring more certain than doing it myself?
Better odds, not certainty. Several devices in the queue beat one, and a prepared account beats one made in a hurry. The real limit is still how many tickets exist.
If I try myself and fail, can I hire afterwards?
Once the on-sale is over there is nothing left to camp. What remains is buying second-hand, which is far riskier. If the show matters, decide before the on-sale rather than after.
